America Photo Dump - New York Part 2

I started that last post ages ago, and didn't get round to posting it, but obv the trip was a long time ago! About 2 months ago.

Anyway here are some more pictures.

Grand Central Station

We went up the Empire State Building - this is the view from the top.

We met Mark's siblings/cousin for lunch

Then we took the Staten Island ferry past the Statue of Liberty.

Then we went to the memorial at the site of the Twin Towers. There are these two huge fountain things that are the size of the bases of the original towers. It's really eery.

Then in the evening we went iceskating in central park, which was so much fun.

USA 2016! --- New York Part 1

I have just come back from an absolutely incredible 2 week holiday in the States. It was the first time I'd gone to America and I had the best time! I went to New York, Texas, Arizona and Minnesota, visiting friends I met in Ghana for my elective (http://escapadesinafrica.blogspot.co.uk)

My first stop was New York. Brilliantly, the Coppolas were in New York at the same time as me as Lynn was talking at a conference. Mark grew up in New York, so knew where everything was and was able to show me around. I arrived on Friday night and left Sunday morning so had a very packed Saturday! This is what we got up to...:

General New York-i-ness:

For some reason there were about a gizillion police officers at the edge of Central Park - I guess it's their morning report or something?

(Apparently this is famous)

(And this one...)

We have a new house mascot...

Sarah bought a tortoise!! It's for her grandma, but we're looking after it for the week until she goes home.

It's kinda strange, her grandma had a tortoise but sadly it died, and she doesn't want anyone to find out because it was only 40 and she's worried people will think she's a bad owner cos it didn't die of old age! So we went on a mission to find her a new one that looks the same! Reminds me of Esiotrot. (Luckily she's one of the 66% of over 75 year olds who've never been online, so she won't see me giving the game away! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36340517 )

He really likes sniffy feet - it's kinda weird!
