Things my patients said vol. 8

Possibly my favourite referral ever from A&E "Poisoned by poison chalice at church"
---
At the end of a very long weekend I had the most hilarious referral from the walk in centre. The GP phoned up v concerned that the pt had "really severe pain in her vagina" that was "so bad she was doubled up in pain". I was v annoyed when she walked onto the ward, clearly not in v much pain at all... I took her into the examination room to find out what had been going on. Turns out she had some hip pain, radiating into her groin (she had arthritis) and had put her arthritis muscle cream on her groin (bum up to genitals) and which had been very very painful and made it go very red. Turns out the cream was capsaicin - the main ingredient comes from chillis! She'd basically rubbed chilli cream in her bits and then wondered why it hurt so much!!

Escaped patient has a seizure outside our house.

Bystander 1 calls an ambulance: "...there are 3 doctors with him now..."

Bystander 2: "And I'm a first aider!"

Patient begins to come round...
Bystander 1: "Don't worry mate, you've got 3 doctors here looking after you"
Bystander 2: "And I'm a first aider!!"

Bloody first aiders! Think we might have stolen her thunder a bit...

Jen's Wedding, The Radio One Big Weekend and Sidmouth (End of May Bank Holiday)

This is a really old post I started ages ago and then got distracted.......

I had the BEST Saturday, managing to squeeze in going to both Jen's wedding and the Radio One Big Weekend (and even a bit of revision in the morning).

Jen is one of the F1s, we worked together on the Stroke Unit Aug-Nov 15. We had the best group of juniors, we had so much fun together. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of us all together at the wedding, so here's one from the Christmas party! Turns out there aren't any pictures with all of us AND Jen in, but here's the rest of us...

And here's Jen on her wedding day!

It was literally the most hipster wedding ever, it was hilarious. So much fun! This is them sawing some wood after saying their vows!

(Pictures courtesy of their friends on FB...)

Then later in the day I went to the Big Weekend (felt a bit bad leaving the wedding a bit early, but really wanted to go to both)

I had so much fun. Luckily I managed to find Fope and Jude and then later Gabby and Jess and Jess' friend Amy, which was a bit of a miracle since I couldn't get through on the phone and there were 25,000 people!!

We saw Bastille, Chase and Status and lastly the headliners, Mumford and Sons. It was so great! The others had seen lots of other acts earlier in the day, but I still had such an amazing time even though I came a lot later.

Then on the Saturday we went to the cheese rolling at Cooper's hill, which was the RANDOMEST thing ever, but really fun!

We managed to time it perfectly so that we arrived just before it started and somehow still got an amazing view right at the top. We were so close to the action the man running it asked us if we wanted to join in! Good thing I was wearing a skirt or else I might have come home w a few broken bones...

Sadly none of the pictures/videos do justice to how INSANELY steep this hill is!!
Then on the Monday we went to Sidmouth and went kyaking and had fish and chips and ice cream =D It's a hard life...

Amazon wares...

I bought a few things off amazon for my travels which arrived today.

First one is a video camera which is waterproof. Got it really cheaply for only £37! I took a little video of the garden. Unfortunately you can't really hear anything because I wasn't thinking and had it in the waterproof case which stops the sound from getting in, but you get the general idea.

The other thing that I bought was a really fancy head torch for when I'm in Zambia. Firstly because there won't be any/many street lights so it'll be useful walking home at night and secondly (the main reason) for if I'm doing C-sections at night and we have a power cut. It's a really powerful torch, with rechargeable batteries and the front light bit tilts so I can have it at different angles.

Ignore the time/date on these, I haven't bothered changing it yet! And will try to remove it altogether cos it's kinda annoying. (Picture from the new camera)

Martin here are the links on amazon:

These are affiliate links (cos I'm fancy like that) so if anyone buys them by clicking on those apparently I get some of the money. How much fun is that! (If highly unlikely...)
